IB Music Grade 10 Course


Introduction: The Music curriculum in Grade 10 seeks to challenge and encourage students by engaging them in theory and analysis, composition, performance, and a variety of musical cultures. giving them the opportunity to build knowledge and understanding, develop skills, think creatively, and respond to music. The Music year 5 curriculum aims to give students a foundation of knowledge and skills needed for the Diploma Programme Music course. 

Description: Students will begin the course by exploring music theory, using the knowledge gained to both analyze existing music and create music. The knowledge and concepts we explore are fundamental to success in the DP Music course. The second unit will put students into the role of conceptual artist, where we explore abstract musical works and use technology to create our own abstract sound piece.

Assessment: All Music work in Grade 10 is assessed against the MYP assessment criteria, using the 1-8 scale. Each assessment piece is accompanied by a rubric or other assessment instrument. Assessment takes place in the form of regular formative and a summative task  per unit.
